MXH Book Club: Our 2025 Wrap - Made X Hudson

We’re wrapping up our first year of Book Club—and already looking ahead to year two.

We knew 2025 would be a politically and culturally turbulent year, so from the beginning, our goals were clear: (1) we wanted to build and organize a stronger community, and (2) stay grounded without getting consumed by the daily news cycle.

Committing to a regular reading practice helped us focus on what we could control: meaningful conversation, shared perspective, and time set aside for reflection. For many of us, joining the MXH Book Club became a way to read more books, meet new neighbors, and escape the noise by diving deeper into literary fiction.

Our first pick, All Fours by Miranda July, immediately set the tone, sparking lively conversation about desire, identity, and creative reinvention. Our group immediately bonded over the book’s intimacy and vulnerability.

What started as a small experiment quickly grew into a community of 40 members (and counting). We closed out the year with a visit from local author Jen Beagin, (shown below) whose book Big Swiss became a national bestseller. In short, we began with boundary-pushing fiction—and continued with bold, memorable reads and conversations.

Here’s Our 2025 Book Club Reading List:

Our next book for February is the Pulitzer Prize Winner, James by Percival Everett.

And sometimes our amazing group will make some snacks on theme, like when several talented cooks brought in some delicious homemade bread and butter for the book, Butter.

Reading as a New Year’s Resolution

Joining—or starting—a book club is one of the most sustainable New Year’s resolutions: it encourages consistent reading, builds community, and creates space for thoughtful discussion.

Thank you to everyone who read with us this year. We’re excited to keep reading, discussing, and growing the community in year two. If you’d like to join our Whatsapp Group Chat, you can request to join from our events page.
