Class Overview
Have you been interested in customizing your sewing projects, making bespoke fabric for your home, or wanted to try out printmaking but felt overwhelmed by the possibility? In this 3 hour class, you’ll be walked through designing, carving, and printing your very own block print. Learn how to convert your design into a block print, from sketching and transferring to carving, and best practices for textile printing. After carving, you’ll get the chance to print your block and use pre-carved blocks provided by Moth to expand your designs.
You'll receive hands-on instruction from Moth Snow, a sustainable textile artist and teacher with over 10 years of experience. By the end of class, you'll not only learn the basics of fabric printing, but also create a washable, custom textile that tells your own story. Reimagine a well loved shirt, personalize napkins, print fabric patches for mending. Discover the joy of printmaking in a supportive, creative environment.
You'll complete a small trial project, one larger printed item of your choice, and take home your custom-carved block. You can also print with a collection of pre-carved designs by Moth to fill out your garments.
You're welcome to bring cards, notebooks, or other paper items to print on and make your creations even more personal. Items can be mixed fiber textiles, napkins, pillowcases, and natural fiber clothing like cotton, denim, and linen. Polyester items are printable as well, 50%+ natural fibers preferred. Avoid slick polyester or fabrics with high texture like velvet or corduroy.
All levels welcome, no experience required. Ages 15+.
