Planning a weekend in the upper Hudson Valley? Here's a guide for exploring around Made X Hudson.
Our two sister locations are just 10 minutes apart in the historic towns of Catskill and Hudson, NY. In Catskill, you’ll find us at 391 Main Street, where our sun-filled atelier sits above our voluminous 2,000-square-foot flagship shop curated with one-of-a-kind garments, health & wellness products, craft supplies, provisions, and more. A short drive away, our Hudson outpost at 345 Warren Street serves as a natural extension of the Made X experience.
Many of customers ask us for recommendations, so we thought we’d create this handy guide to break down where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, and how to add a little nature to your trip.
(Note: While we’re open daily 11-5pm, many local businesses close or have seasonal hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so check ahead.)
Where to Stay
People often ask how Hudson, NY and Catskill, NY compare, and even though they’re only about 10 minutes apart, they offer two very different, but complementary Hudson Valley experiences. Catskill (in Greene County) sits on the west side of the Hudson River and feels like a natural launchpad for outdoor adventures, with quicker access to mountain views, hiking, and creekside wandering. Hudson (in Columbia County) is on the east side of the river and tends to feel more “town-meets-city,” thanks in large part to the Hudson Amtrak station and its easy connection to New York City.
The best part is that you can comfortably explore both towns during a 2–3 day Hudson Valley weekend getaway. We always encourage taking the train to Hudson when you can. That said, having a car makes it much easier to reach favorite nearby spots, especially because ride shares and taxis are limited in this part of the Hudson Valley.
Where to stay in Catskill, NY (and nearby)
If you’re staying on the Catskill side, Camptown is a favorite for its cozy cabins and laid-back, design-forward vibe. For a quiet, restorative escape, Piaule offers a serene retreat tucked into the woods. If you don’t mind being a bit outside town, Deer Mountain Inn and Glen Falls House are both more secluded options with excellent food programs and a true getaway feel.
Where to stay in Hudson, NY
On the Hudson side, The Wick and Wm. Farmer & Sons are great options if you’re arriving by train and want something easy right after you step off the platform. A little farther up the road, Rivertown Lodge is a classic Hudson stay. Pocketbook Hudson is a newer option that’s close to a resort experience, complete with a restaurant, bar, nightclub, and a spa program in the works. And if you want to go all out, The Maker has some of the most beautifully designed rooms in Hudson.
If you’re looking for a cute bed-and-breakfast experience, we recommend The Nest, just around the corner from our shop.
Friday: Arrival + Dinner

Once you’ve checked in, start your weekend with an easy first-night dinner in Hudson, NY or Catskill, NY. These are the spots we send friends to most often, especially if you’re building a simple 2–3 day Hudson + Catskill itinerary.
Dinner in Hudson, NY
If you want a memorable “first stop” that feels like part of the trip, book dinner or drinks at The Maker. It’s one of those places that works at any hour. If you miss their dinner, grab a pistachio croissant at their cafe in the morning, or settle into the lounge for a late-night cocktail.
For consistently elevated, farm-to-table Italian that still feels relaxed, Feast & Floret is a reliable go-to. If you’re craving a more casual Italian night, Via Cassia and Savona’s are both nearby and easy to love.
If you’re staying close to the Hudson Amtrak station, you can keep it simple with Wm. Farmer & Sons or Kitty’s, both great options when you want to get settled fast and eat well.
Walk-in friendly options in Hudson, NY
If your group is arriving at different times or you hit traffic, these are our favorite low-friction picks. Hudson Diner does an elevated take on classic diner comfort food, and Isaan Thai Star is perfect when you want bold flavor and real spice.
For Mexican, we like El Sabor de Oaxaca and Soluna Cafe Cantina for a casual, local favorite vibe.
Dinner in Catskill, NY (and nearby)
On the Catskill side, Subversive Malting + Brewing is a solid first-night move for great beer and food in a relaxed setting. For a more “destination dinner” feel, Casa Susanna at Camptown has quickly become a standout for a special night out with its James Beard nominated chef.
After-dinner drinks and nightlife
For a nightcap with speakeasy energy, we love Hemlock in Catskill and The Hereafter in Hudson for strong cocktails and a thoughtful late-night menu.
If you’re in the mood for live music and dancing, Avalon Lounge is always a fun late-night option, and their Korean kitchen plus soju menu makes it an easy “one more stop” kind of place.
Saturday: Eat and Shop Catskill or Hudson

Saturday is for design, discovery, and taking your time to explore the richness of our area. Start with breakfast in Catskill at Willa’s Bakery Cafe, an easy walk from our Catskill shop for decadent pastries and breakfast plates (they close mid-afternoon, so go early). If you want classic diner comfort food that’s truly homemade, head just outside of town to Gracie’s Luncheonette in Leeds. For something plant-forward, Café Joust is a local favorite for vegan and macrobiotic-leaning food.
If you’re doing breakfast in Hudson instead, Le Perche is a classic French option with a lovely back garden, and for a quick coffee we like Hudson Roastery, MOTO Coffee Machine, and pastry stops like Mel the Bakery. A little farther out, Quinnie’s is worth the detour to cozy up in their farmhouse setting.
To explore Catskill on foot, start with coffee and a browse at Citiot, pop into Kaaterskill Market for a woven basket, then come see us at Made X Hudson. If you’re looking for a book to settle in with later, swing by Magpie Bookshop across the street, and don’t miss Sister Salvage, Stay Forever, and Spike’s Vinyl. Afterward, grab a drink and bite at Left Bank Ciders, which is just through the alley next to our shop in the back of our building.
Later in the afternoon or the next day, cross the river to Hudson for some of the best independent shopping in upstate New York and do a slow walk of Warren Street. For clothes and accessories, we love Jamestown, Hudson Clothier, Nikki Chasin, Mikel Hunter, Manifest Boutique, Proprietors, Behida Dolić, Vibe Jewels, MLE, and Nina Z. For housewares and design finds, browse Ipsum, Batterby House, Farm Shoppe, and Freaks’. And if you have kids in tow, Rebus and Little Pickles are great stops.
For digging through vintage and media, we like Old Books, TSL’s Secondhand Shop, and John Doe Records & Books. Before you head out, grab a bottle at Hudson Wine Merchants to bring to a friend’s house.
You also can’t leave Hudson without a serious wander through The Antique Warehouse down by the waterfront; give yourself at least 1–2 hours because it’s enormous.
Wrap the day with something sweet at Culture Cream, or drive a few minutes out for a sunset drink with mountain views at Klocke Estate.
Sunday: Nature Before Heading Home
Sunday is for fresh air before you head home. Slow down, grab a coffee, and make time for one last Hudson Valley reset before the drive back to the city.
For an iconic hike near Catskill, NY, head to Kaaterskill Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in the Catskills. Wear proper footwear, arrive early on weekends, and plan for parking plus a moderate walk, since the popular lots can fill up quickly. (Catskills Visitor Center) If you’re more of an indoorsy type, book a class at LAVA Hot Yoga, which has studios in both Hudson, NY and Catskill, NY.
If you want history and views that capture the spirit of the Hudson Valley, add Olana State Historic Site for its artist-designed landscape and river panoramas, then stop by the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill to connect the dots on the Hudson River School and the region’s creative legacy.
Afterward, take the scenic route home with a drive through the Catskills or along the Hudson River, and treat the ride back as part of the weekend, not just the ending.
