Hudson Valley printmaker and textile artist Jen Hewett is both a friend and client of ours, and we’re thrilled to host her for a 3-hour Introduction to Embroidery workshop this spring. Jen teaches rarely these days, so this is a special opportunity to spend time with her learning new skills in our beautiful Catskill shop!
- Saturday March 21, 2-5pm
- Made X Hudson shop, 391 Main St, Catskill NY
- Space is limited to ~16 spots
- Learn the basics of embroidery from Jen, and begin a small project
- During a break, meet our cofounder Sergio Guadarrama and take a quick tour of our 2nd-floor garment factory* if you like
- In addition to the items specified below, we will provide light snacks and drinks. Mocktails are also available to purchase at our in-store bar
Class Overview
Learn the basics of embroidery in this (literally) hands-on class. We’ll create samplers of the foundational embroidery stitches — stem stitch, split stitch, chain stitch and satin stitch — as well as the trickier French knots, before working on a small project.
Embroidery is a mindful, portable craft that can be done anywhere you have good light and a comfortable place to sit. In addition to the more traditional uses of embroidery, you can incorporate embroidery into your other fiber art projects, or use it to mend or jazz up a garment.
Materials Provided
• Embroidery hoop and needle
• Embroidery floss
• Fabric pre-printed with embroidery designs
Students don’t need to bring anything, unless you have very specific embroidery floss colors you’d like to work with.
